Report on the German Energiewende shows progress in energy and climate policy
As the 8th monitoring report on the German Energiewende demonstrates, the energy transition in Germany is making significant progress. Renewable energies are increasingly contributing to power supply in Germany. The share of renewable energies in electricity consumption was 42 percent in 2019 and around 46 percent in 2020.
Greenhouse gas emissions were also further reduced in 2019. Although no final figures for 2020 are available yet, this positive trend from 2019 will continue in 2020 according to initial estimates.
