Flower Acquires First Large-Scale Battery Storage Project in Germany

Our SGCP alumni from 2025, the energy company Flower has acquired a 63 MW / 257 MWh ready-to-build battery storage project (BESS) in Döllnitz, Saxony-Anhalt, in Germany through a share purchase agreement with the international energy company CCE. Flower will handle financing, operation, and commercialization of the project and aiming to start construction in 2027 with commercial operation in 2028.

“This is Flower’s largest acquisition to date and marks our formal entry into the German market with a large-scale energy asset supporting a stable and cost-efficient energy system,” says Jason Morris, Head of Acquisitions & Partnerships.

“Germany is a key market as it accelerates renewable energy while phasing out coal, gas, and nuclear. Energy storage is vital for grid stability, and this milestone project advances our role in the energy transition across Europe,” says John Diklev, Founder & CEO.

The project was developed by CCE, which will remain a strategic partner in Flower’s European expansion. Flower is also developing large-scale battery projects in the Netherlands, France, and Belgium, building a European portfolio of several GWh of flexible energy assets.

Worth to mention in this context is their well-earned distinction as recipients of the prestigious SET Award on 17 March 2026 in the category “Clean Energy & Storage”, further underscoring their position as a pioneering force in the energy sector. Their innovative approaches and forward-thinking solutions continue to set new benchmarks, demonstrating their commitment shape the future of sustainable energy.
